Communication

Hearing aids automatically amplify all surrounding sound, making it very difficult for users to screen out background noise to hear what is being said. Induction loop systems allow direct input to hearing aids set to the ‘T’ position from a microphone source minimising unwanted background noise. There are a wide range of induction loop systems available to suit different environments and purposes.

For across counters the PDA102C Counter Loop Kit is a fixed unit that covers only a small area to maintain confidentiality. The Portable Loop SystemPL1/K1 is an all in one portable equivalent for counter, table or desk top use.

Fixed, whole room coverage in small public rooms is available using the Megaloop or the PDA 102L Small Room Kit. The PDA 102S TV/Music Room Kit comes with a scart lead instead of a microphone and is ideal for TV lounges.

For larger meeting rooms, churches, theatres etc, the PDA200/2 Induction Loop Amplifier, the PDA500/2 Induction Loop Amplifier and the PDA1000/2 Induction Loop Amplifier provide cover for up to 200m², 500m² and 900m² respectively.

If a portable loop system is required, the EchoLoop Portable Loop System is suitable for smaller meetings, and the K120P Portable Loop System is ideal for public meetings, training events etc.

The Williams Sound Multi Case FM System is an alternative, portable option for providing access to meetings, training events etc. The significant benefits of using an FM system include the ease of setting up – there is no need to loop the room prior to the event, and the choice offered to users – both neck loops and headsets are provided.

For the individual employee or student, we highly recommend the Sennheiser Mikroport 2013 FM System, which provides exceptional sound quality and can be easily used in a wide variety of settings.

The MiniTech Digital Personal Listener is a small battery-operated personal listener, that comes with a neck loop or a headset, providing excellent amplification in one-to-one settings, for example in a GP’s surgery.

The EchoVoice EV3 is a compact speech enhancement system which is ideal for teachers etc, or for those with speech difficulties.

Safety/ Alerting Devices

Fire safety for people who are deaf in public buildings is an often overlooked consideration. The Silent Alert SA3000 Fire Safe Paging System will interface with your existing commercial fire alarm providing a simple and cost-effective solution. For small premises, for example guest houses, the Easylink Fire Centurion provides overnight cover ensuring guests in locked rooms are alerted. The unit can be easily moved between rooms as required. The Silent Alert SA3000 Paging System is useful for employees who are deaf or hard of hearing, and can be used to alert to a variety of options including fire, person-to-person, door and telephone.

Lone workers who may require assistance in an emergency can rely on the Easylink Call Alarm with Pendant Transmitter & Auto Dialler which, at the push of a button on a body worn pendant, will automatically call up to 6 stored numbers until an appropriate response is received. The Easylink Fall Alarm with Auto Dialler similarly calls for assistance on a fall or vigorous shaking.

In residential and day care establishments, the Silent Alert SA3000 Care Call System will alert staff to the needs of up to 12 people by means of a body worn vibrating pager or an audio signal from the base unit. This can be used in conjunction with call buttons, door contacts, pressure pads and/or movement sensors. The Easylink Bed Seizure Alarm and the Smart Bed/Chair Leaving Alarm provide cover for these more specific needs.

The Friedland Libra Flashing Doorbell provides a a portable unit with a range of loud chimes and a flashing light.

Telecommunications

For improved hearing on the telephone, the AmpliDect 150 Digital Cordless Telephone offers the user volume and tone controls. The Clearsound CL1100 Telephone, CL1100 Clearsound Telephone, and the CL200 Clearsound Big Button Telephone also have volume and tone controls, and are compatible with hearing aids that have the T facility. The CLA40 Clearsound In-line Telephone Amplifier can be used to boost the listening volume of your existing telephone.

We also have a range of text-phones to offer an alternative means of communication. BT provide an easy to use operator exchange system, Textdirect, allowing text-phone users to make direct telephone calls to any regular telephone number. The Uniphone 1150 can be used as both a text-phone and a regular telephone, and the Minicom 6000 or 6000 Plus Textphones can be connected directly into the telephone line or used in conjunction with an existing telephone with a suitable headset. The Minicom Pro 8000, 8000 Gold or 8000 LVD come with a full size keyboard, large visual display, and 80 column printer. The Compact Textphone is a portable text-phone.
